Augmented Reality or Our Future

Hello guys, I am back with an amazing information for you. It is about augmented reality, many of you are familiar with this technology and maybe using it, but don’t know what it is? And how it works?

So without wasting any time lets dig into some basic information about augmented reality.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented or superimposed by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is generally known as mediated reality. In difference, virtual reality replaces the real world completely with computer generated world, augmented reality takes place in real-time by editing some environmental element. With the help of an advanced AR technology the surrounding of the user becomes digitally manipulatable. Information provided by the computer is overlaid on the real world.

Hardware required for augmented reality are processor, display, sensors, and Input devices. Modern devices like smartphones and tablet computers contains these elements which often include cameras and sensors such as accelerometer, GPS and solid state compass making them a suitable AR platform.

 Display

Various technologies are used in Augmented Reality rendering including optical projecting systems, monitors, hand held devices, and display systems worn on the human body.

 Tracking

Modern day AR systems use optical sensors, accelerometers, GPS, gyroscope, solid state compass. These sensors offer various level of accuracy and precision.

 Input devices

Speech recognition system is used as for conversion of user’s spoken words into computer instructions, and gesture recognition system are used for reading the user’s body movements.

 Computer

The computer analyzes the sensed visual and other data to synthesize and position augmentations.

Now, these were some basic information about augmented reality. Now you must be wondering what it is used for. With some simple example you’ll understand everything.

1)      Pokémon Go
It is a free-to-play, location based game developed by Niantic for Android and iOS devices. In this game players use a mobile device’s GPS capability to locate, capture, train and battle with virtual creatures called Pokémon, who appears on the screen as if they are on the same real world.

           2)      Augment
It lets you place virtual furniture throughout your house to see what it looks like, if you are planning to buy any furniture. Just select anything as the marker and this app will generate the virtual furniture on it.

                  3)      Google glass

Google glass is an optical head-mounted display, which is designed to look like a pair of eyeglasses, it is a ubiquitous computer. It is like a whole computer display in your glasses.

 4)      Microsoft HoloLens
It is a pair of mixed reality head-mounted smartglasses developed and manufactured by Microsoft. It gained popularity for being one of the first computer running on the windows Holographic platform under the windows 10 operating system.
