We all know, nothing is faster than light.. Do we really..?? Let's find out..
Over the years many scientist are trying to find if there is any thing in the whole universe which travels faster than the light. they did many research.. Install telescopes. even sends some in space to observe radiations but nothing important regarding to speed came up..
In recent operation of Large hadron collider (LHC) at Geneva, switzerland brought up a very scary, yet crazy result. They boom the Neutrino to the receiver which was at a distance of 724 km. . The particle Neutrino did go faster than light. Not by much, by 60 nanoseconds. But, wait a second..!! Isn't einstein said that nothing can go faster than light. ?? Even our whole fundamental understanding of the universe based on his principle. It means everything that we have understands about Universe till today may gone wrong. But to our relief, it is found that the observation taken was incorrect due to loose optic fibre cable.. Really..!!
Scientists are still in search for Tachyon. Tachyon are those hypothetical particles which are said to be faster than light. In 1907 Einstein first came up with this idea that if any particle can travel faster than light than we can build a device Tachyonic antitelephone which can send signal to our past. Amazing.. isn't it.!!

Cherenkov radiation in a nuclear reactor |
So, till now nothing goes faster than light... In VACUUM.. If we change the medium, say water, the speed of light reduced to 75%, that means it travels with a speed of 225,000 km/s. Some particles can go faster than that speed.
For example, In a nuclear reactor, when charged particles released due to fission and emits radiation the particle actually moves faster than the phase velocity of light which produces a blue glow, called Cherenkov radiation. It is pretty much like Sonic boom of Light.
But what about speed faster than light in vacuum.. Is it possible..?? Is there anything in the whole Universe which travels faster than the speed of light..?? The answer is even weirder than the question itself, Expansion of our Universe. Yes.!! Our Universe is expanding faster than the speed of light and to excite your excitement, the rate of expansion is still accelerating, which means expansion speed still getting faster and faster. Some scientist believes the ultimate fate of the Universe will be the big rip. In which due to the expansion of the Universe, the matter in it, from stars to atoms, galaxies to subatomic particles, everything will be torn apart, even space time itself and thus will rip the Universe apart.
What Scientists do not know is why the Universe keeps on expanding.? Some assumes that it is because of some energy termed as dark energy which acts opposite to gravity and occupies all the Universe. Now let's get back on topic..
Isn't that breaks the law of physics that nothing can go faster than light in the vacuum. No, the law of physics still remains intact. Nothing can go faster than light in vacuum as the expansion of Universe is taking place beyond nothing. Pretty confusing stuff. isn't it..?? But that's how scientists actually looks at the scenario. They say the whole Universe, everything in it emerges from nothing. That is after the big bang. So basically at the very beginning there was nothing and that nothing is still expanding and keeps the law as it is that is nothing, can go faster than light..
I know that is pretty confusing stuff.. But The Universe is under no obligation to make sense to you..
