Of the 287 world heritage cities across the globe, the only two cities in the Indian subcontinent which enjoy the status are Bhaktapur in Nepal and Galle in Sri Lanka.
Ahmedabad also serves as a city where after the return of the Indian freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa, his first Ashram in India was established in the Kochrab area of Ahmedabad on 25 May 1915. Then the Ashram was shifted on 17 June 1917 to a piece of open land on the banks of the river Sabarmati. The Sabarmati Ashram (also known as Harijan Ashram).
Another best heritage is The Adalaj Step Well its also called "Rudabai Step-well" It was built in 1498 by Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela dynasty of Dandai Desh .It is located in the village of Adalaj, close to Ahmedabad city Gandhinagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat and its great art work and and design is also a heritage to India.
And at last with its elegant carving in its Hindu and Jain temples as well as the outstanding one is the best examples of Indo-Islamic architecture and Hindu Islamic art and it also chosen to be the one of the Indian's first smartest cities
