"Panama Papers leaked over PHP Content Management Systems(CMS) WordPress"
Welcome back dear readers. Today I am here with one more interesting post related to the cyber forensics. The Mossack Fonseca (MF), is a Panamanian law firm and corporate service provider, which is the world's fourth biggest provider of offshore financial services. This Panamanian law firm's data has been breached which includes 4.8 million emails.
What does Panama Papers means?
The Panama papers are 11.5 million leaked documents that details financial and attorney–client information of more than 214,488 offshore entities. The leaked documents contain personal financial information about wealthy individuals and public officials that had previously been kept private. While according to some of the global reporters, offshore business entities are legal, but some of the Mossack Fonseca shell corporations were used for illegal purposes, like fraud, tax evasion, and evading international sanctions. The Prime Minister of Iceland, Russian President Putin & British prime Minister David Cameron has brought down all these big men by the Panama Papers.
This data crash includes about 2.6 terabytes and 11.5 million documents. The details of more than 200,000 offshore entities from the entire world, was hold by the Panama Papers. These papers include highly confidential information including email accounts, passport copies, invoices, banking documents and certain thousands of offshore registration acts. The details of around 128 politicians' secret business were offered by this Panama Papers.
The Mossack Fonseca, using the older versions of Revolution Slider and they are running WordPress on the website which is easily vulnerable. After the inspection of the website, it came to know that they were using the 2.1.7 version of Revolution Slider and the versions upto 3.0.95 are vulnerable to hacking attacks. As per the results of DNS, the web server and the mail server both were hosted on the same computer. And the most important thing is that they were hosting private and highly confidential information on their WordPress database. The big mistake of the company is that they were not using the Firewall and any other anti-virus software either. This leads the data breach and lose of huge amount of information in the cyber attack. Even the company never expected this to happen to their website which is using the older version of WordPress.
