Hello and welcome back .
Let me ask you a question today that what if someone else have all the access to your private data including your browsing history, private photos, etc. and will send it to the contacts saved in your phone? I can imagine that angry face you will make after reading this question. Today's post is based on this question and the details containing some safety measures to prevent that circumstances.
According to the latest news from the hacking world, some of the Bad/Black-hat hackers are trying to scare the Android users about the leak of their private photos and other sensitive data. Yes, they concentrated mainly on the private photos and browsing history of the users. They are warning that they will send all these private data to those whose contact numbers or email addresses are in the contact list of the victim's phone if the victim will not pay the ransom for that. In order not to send those sensitive data to the victim's contact lists, they are asking some ransom to keep data private instead of making it public. After researching on this, some of the researchers cautioned the Android or Smartphone users about the new released ransomware which steals the private pics from the victim's phone and then sends it to all the contacts saved in their device. McAfee, the tech security substantial had reported about this newly arrived virus named LeakerLocker to The Sun.
What is LeakerLocker?
What it does?
And, how it works?
The LeakerLocker ransomware is a kind of virus which saves the backup of the victim's private data including some private photos, their browsing history and videos that device contains. This LeakerLocker ransomware locks down the victim's device without alarming any leak of their sensitive data like their private photographs, videos or even browsing history too. After taking over on these data, it sends to all to the contacts and email addresses that are saved on that device. As soon as the device got hijacked, the attackers ask some money or ransom from the victim to keep that data private. Even if the victim pays the ransom, there is no surety that their data will remain private. From the above characteristics of the ransomware LeakerLocker, it clearly seems that the main motto behind this hijack is to steal the private photos of the victim's and use it to earn money by selling that data to others. Some researchers also told that this LeakerLocker ransomware allegates that they have pirated backup of all those data which the victim's device contain.
To whom LeakerKocker affects and how?
This virus can harm Android mobile users and it was detected in some apps on the Google Play Store. "Booster & Cleaner Pro", "Wallpapers Blur HD" are the apps which were suggested by McAfee to the users to not to download or install . If the device is tainted then it will show a message written by the attackers saying, "In less than 72 hours this data will be sent to every person from your telephone and email contact list. To abort this action you have to pay a modest ransom of US$50. Please be noticed that there are no ways to delete your information from our secured database other than paying for it." It also says," Powering off or even damaging your smartphone won't affect your data in the cloud." Experts from the McAfee advised that the data which the malware claims to be hijacked will not be fully read of leaked.
While reading this article or news, one most important thought will strike in your mind that what if I will be exposed too. The second thought will be of paying that ransom and making yourself safe from exposure. But, let me inform you that even after paying that ransom, you are not fully safe from being exposed because there is no guarantee that the attackers will delete your personal or private data from their database. The best way to stay away from such kind of attacks is to keep your smartphone updated and do not install any of the untrusted applications from your Google Play Store.
Thank you for your time today.
