According to the most recent statement released by the Twitter which urges it's 330 million users to change their password immediately. Yeah, it's true that Twitter is asking it's users to change their password immediately because they found a bug which has exposed all the password in a plain text. While there is a good news that these details are not breached to outside of the Twitter. The company had investigated about the data breach and the report came negative that clearly tells that the data is safe and not compromised. But still the company is asking it's users to change the password as soon as possible just for the safety.

As per the report off the company that this bug was resulted due to an issue in the hashing algorithm. The main job off that algorithm is to mask the password and convert it into the fingerprint of that distinct password. This process got disturbed because off this bug and the password started saving in a plain text in an internal log. According to the claim of company, they are saying that they found and removed this buggy code and fixed it. They are also saying that a team off experts are still working on it to make sure that this kind of bug will not occur again.

Twitter haven't declared the amount of affected users but the company experts think that almost all the users have been affected of it. And these passwords are exposed to those employees of the company who has access to the internal log of it. This is the reason why the company is urging to it's all users to change their password as soon as they come to know this. Twitter has caught this bug few weeks ago while this problem has occurred several months ago. After this all, Jack Dorsey, Chief executive of the Twitter had tweeted to say that the bug had been fixed. "We recently discovered a bug where account passwords were bring written to an internal log before completing a masking/hashing process. We've fixed, see no indication of breach or misuse, and believe it's important for us to be open about this internal defect."

The company also assured that these passwords are stored in the internal log of company only. They also said that these logs are not available or accessible to the public. But for the security reasons they urged to change the password immediately.
