FreshMenu: Under data breach since 2 years!

We all know that nowadays, data breach kind of incidents are getting so common that we come across such kind of events almost daily. Customers feels themselves in danger while doing something online and related to the details of them. Today also we are going to discuss about the data breach happened with the India's one of the online food ordering website and application. Yes, "FreshMenu" is the company who provides the service of home deliver of food. FreshMenu had disclosed that they have faced a data breach in which affected 110,000 users.


    The most shocking thing about this data breach is that it happened two years back in 2016. Yes, it's true that the company has faced this data breach two years back but they kept it as a secret and didn't shared with any one. HavelBeenPwned.com is the famous source for indexing breaches revealed a disturbing fact in a tweet on September 10, 2018. They uncovered that this breach was reported by the FreshMenu in the 2016 but not in public. Due to this data breach, 110,000 customers are affecting since 2 years and their details has been compromised.

    New breach: FreshMenu had 110k customer records exposed in 2016 including names, phone numbers, order histories, physical & email address. FreshMenu was aware of the incident & elected not to disclose it to customers. 75% were already in @haveibeenpwned. This is the tweet which was done by the HavelBeenPwned.com on the twitter to declare about this data breach which was kept secret since past 2 years. They also revealed that this data breach had occurred on July 1, 2016, which has affected 110.355 accounts of FreshMenu.

    Strange part of it is that when FreshMenu has notified about this data breach, they confirmed the knowledge of this breach. They responded that they kept this incident as a secret and decided not to declare about this breach to the affected customers. Recently, after the confession in front of media about this data breach, they also uploaded a special notice on their website apologizing to their customers. "I owe every user of FreshMenu a sincere apology for the breach and for not addressing this matter proactively. Trust is integral to the relationship we share with you and we regret the event that led to this trust being compromised."

    "In the moment, we believed that the since the breach was limited, we would focus on resolving the vulnerability and making sure that no further breaches happen." They stated this statement on the data breach. They also gave assurance that they have worked on fixing of that vulnerability as soon as they came to know about that breach. FreahMenu verified that the information which was in the data breach doesn't include any of the passwords or paytm details.
