Quora Hacked: More than 100 million users affected!!!

The most popular question and answer website Quora announced that it has been hacked by the malicious third party and up to 100 million user’s data have been exposed. User’s data include account information, email address, encrypted (hashed) password, publicly available questions, answers, comments and upvotes, and the hidden content such as the downvotes, direct messages, and answer requests. The data which is stolen that includes a lot of information that was already technically public, such as users’ questions, answers, and the announcement adds, comments, and upvotes.

Quora confirmed that anonymously posted questions remained unaffected since Quora does not save details of anonymous users.

Quora founded in 2009, it offers users to ask any questions, answered, edited and organized by other users.



Adam D’Angelo, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Quora said they still investigating the breach and assured its users that it working rapidly to "take the appropriate steps to improve their security and prevent such incidents in the future." Quora confirmed that the data breach affected only some of the users at varying levels. Quora notified all 100 million impacted users by email, so if you don't get one then you are likely OK. The affected users will receive separate emails in this regard.

Quora advised users to change their passwords. They can do so by simply going to their account setting. Click on the 'Change Password' link and enter your current password which will then enable you to change it. Quora will ask the affected users to reset their password the next time when they log in to the site. If you want to simply delete your Quora account, then go to the account privacy settings and click on “Delete Account”. To confirm the deletion of the account the site will ask you to enter your password

Quora sent security update to all users on Monday night, they said it was logging out all users who may have been affected and invalidating their passwords.

Quora advised users that it is a best practice not to reuse the same password across multiple accounts, and recommend that people change their passwords if they are doing so.
